Google DeepMind Unveils WeatherNext 3, Bringing Hourly Satellite Forecasts Worldwide

Google's DeepMind has unveiled WeatherNext 3, an AI-powered weather forecasting system that uses live satellite data to provide hourly forecasts at up to 5-kilometer resolution worldwide.

The new system boasts precipitation forecasts that are up to 50% more accurate than its predecessor, WeatherNext 2. It can also provide wind-speed data at turbine height for wind-energy output and updates cloud cover every hour from satellite images.

The system targets operators of wind and solar energy by reducing the typical delay in weather forecasting from several hours to just three or four hours with its hourly cadence.
