Google Delves into €13 Billion Digital Infrastructure Investment in Finland
Google has announced a massive investment of €13 billion in digital infrastructure in Finland over the next two years. This is the company's largest single investment in Europe to date, and it will include data centers and supporting infrastructure investments in four locations: Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala.
The investment will not only create 16,000 construction jobs but also employ around 7,000 people once the facilities are operational. Google has had a presence in Finland since it acquired a former paper mill in Hamina in 2009 and transformed it into a data center. The company has been expanding its presence in the country over the years, purchasing land for further expansion.
Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google, said that the company is proud to deepen its roots in Finland with this significant investment. Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister of Finland, welcomed the decision, stating that it demonstrates the country's attractiveness as a destination for investments.
