Google Deploys Age Verification Tech Amid Global Social Media Crackdown
Google is introducing age assurance technology to identify underage accounts in Canada.
The company will begin rolling out this technology in the coming days and will carefully monitor its progress as it expands availability, according to Jeanette Patell, director of government affairs and public policy at Google Canada.
Patell stated that Google won't be collecting any new information not already associated with a user's account.
This move comes as governments around the world, including in Canada, implement age restrictions for social media. Meta has already started using AI to identify underage users and place them in teen accounts in Canada.
