Google Details European Search Dataset Licensing Program Requirements
Google has updated its European Search Dataset Licensing Program to provide details on the program's requirements and application process. The company is legally required to share its search data with competing search engines in compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). According to Google, the refreshed program includes new information on eligibility criteria, application details, and licensing terms.
The Search Dataset comprises anonymized online search data generated by end users on Google Search, including ranking, query, click, and view data. Eligible recipients must meet strict criteria, such as being an established company or a credible new entrant, and agreeing to share the data under Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) pricing terms.
Google has also provided details on the three conditions for sharing this data: FRAND Terms, Strict Anonymization, and Data Processing and Transfers. The company must ensure that personal data is protected and assess whether the applicant plans to process the data within the European Economic Area (EEA) or transfer it internationally.
Applicants can fill out a form to request access to the Search Dataset, which includes online search engines operating in the EEA and AI chatbots with search engine functionalities. The program aims to foster fair competition among search engines and promote innovation in the digital market.
