Google Ditches Android and Wear OS Support for Google Assistant

Google is shutting down its voice assistant, Google Assistant, on Android and Wear OS devices starting September 4. According to emails sent to users, availability will be removed over a few weeks, leaving users unable to use or switch back to Google Assistant.

Google first launched Google Assistant in 2016 as a competitor to Siri and Alexa. In recent years, Amazon infused Alexa with AI technology, while Apple upgraded Siri. However, Google opted for its AI chatbot Gemini instead of upgrading Google Assistant.

This move marks the end of an era for Google Assistant, which will soon join other discontinued tech products like Skype, AOL dial-up, and TiVo in the tech graveyard.
