Google Ditches Campaign-Level Language Targeting for Ads
Google Ads will eliminate campaign-level language targeting from its platform starting in late September. This means that advertisers will no longer be able to target specific languages for their ads on a campaign-by-campaign basis.
The change is part of Google's effort to improve the relevance and effectiveness of its advertising platform. According to Ginny Marvin, ads product liaison at Google, 'The system takes into account ad creative and landing language.'
The company will instead prioritize ads that match the language of the search term. For example, if a user searches for something in German, the ad platform will give higher priority to ads and websites written in German.
This change may affect some advertisers who currently use manual language targeting or have campaigns set up in multiple languages. However, Google has stated that there is no need to restructure campaigns, but recommends reviewing them to ensure ad creative and landing pages are clearly structured in the intended languages for users.
