Google Ditches China for Vietnam and India in Pixel Device Shift
Google has announced plans to move Pixel device production out of China by 2027. The company aims to shift manufacturing to Vietnam and India, reducing its reliance on China. This change is part of Google's strategy to promote AI tools, with the goal of increasing Pixel phone shipments by 8-10% this year.
The decision follows Google's observation that Pixel devices are not sold directly in the Chinese market. This makes it easier for the company to transition production out of China compared to competitors like Apple. Additionally, Google is combining memory chip orders for its phones and AI/cloud businesses to strengthen supplier negotiations amid a chip shortage.
