Google Ditches ChromeOS for Android in Google Meet Hardware

Google is transitioning its Google Meet hardware portfolio from ChromeOS to Android. The company stated that it will continue delivering security patches, stability updates, and ChromeOS releases for all existing Google Meet hardware running ChromeOS.

Existing investments in ChromeOS devices are protected, with a guarantee of support until 2030 for recent models. However, hardware partners like Logitech, CTL, and Asus will gradually end manufacturing and sales for ChromeOS-based hardware according to the following timelines: Logitech / CTL Google Meet Compute System by February 2027 and ASUS Google Meet Compute System by April 2027.

Google claims that Android offers several benefits, including a broader range of form factors, enterprise stability, hardware flexibility, and long lifecycles. The company also teased 'several exciting Android devices intended for large-format spaces planned for 2027.'
