Google Drops €13 Billion on Finnish Digital Infrastructure
Google has announced its largest single investment in Europe, a €13 billion commitment to digital infrastructure in Finland over the next two years. The plan includes new data center construction and supporting infrastructure in several municipalities, building on Google's existing presence in the country.
The investment is expected to contribute an average of €3.6 billion per year to Finland's GDP and support more than 37,000 jobs nationwide, with approximately 16,000 of those jobs projected to be in construction.
Google has partnered with Fingrid, Business Finland, and Fortum on various initiatives, including a power-purchase agreement to support the life-extension program for the Loviisa nuclear power plant. The company also announced on-shore wind power-purchase agreements with Valorem and Suomen Hyötytuuli totaling 629 MW.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo hailed the investment as 'a clear testament to our strengths', while local leaders praised the projects for strengthening regional economies and supporting sustainable development.
