Google Drops €13 Billion on Finnish Digital Infrastructure
Google is making its largest single investment in Europe to date, committing at least €13 billion ($15.12 billion) for Finland's digital infrastructure expansion across 2027 and 2028.
The funds will be allocated towards new data centers and related infrastructure in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala. Upon completion, these sites are expected to support 7,000 jobs annually across data-centre operations, technical services, and upstream suppliers.
During the initial phase, Google's investment is projected to contribute an average of €3.6 billion per year to Finland's GDP and create over 37,000 jobs nationwide during the construction phase. This significant investment underscores Google's commitment to grow its presence responsibly in Europe while promoting energy capacity and grid enhancements.
Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo welcomed the decision, stating that it is a testament to Finland's strengths and will deliver lasting benefits for both parties. The expansion also marks a significant milestone in Google's operations in Finland, where it has been present for over 15 years.
