Google Drops $15B on Finnish AI Infrastructure
Google is set to invest $15.1 billion in artificial intelligence infrastructure in Finland over two years, its largest single investment in Europe. The spending will cover data centres, electricity-grid upgrades, and clean-energy and battery projects.
The infrastructure will support Google services including Gemini, Search, Maps, and YouTube. Finland's cold climate makes it an attractive location for data centres due to reduced cooling costs, while its power system provides access to low-carbon electricity.
Microsoft and ByteDance, TikTok owner, are also investing in the country's infrastructure. Google estimates that the construction phase will contribute around $3.6 billion to Finland's gross domestic product.
