Google Dumps €13 Billion into Finnish AI and Energy Projects
Google has announced a massive €13 billion investment in AI infrastructure and energy projects in Finland. The tech giant plans to expand its presence in the country, with data centers, electrical grid improvements, and clean energy projects for its chatbot, search, and map services.
The investment is scheduled for 2027 and 2028, and Google claims it will pump €3.6 billion into Finland's GDP and create 37,000 jobs, including 7,000 permanent positions. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo echoed the company's rosy outlook, emphasizing that the deal would spur further investment in the country.
However, critics have raised concerns about the potential security risks associated with foreign-owned data centers. Finland's Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO) has warned that municipalities may be prioritizing economic benefits over security risks, particularly if the owners are linked to authoritarian countries like Russia or China.
