Google Earth Unlocks Secret Flight Simulator for All Users

Google Earth has opened its secret flight simulator to all users, allowing anyone to soar above the earth for free. The game was previously available only in the desktop app and marks a larger push by Google to add professional-level features to the website interface.

The flight simulator, which dates back to 2007, is now accessible on the web through the Explore Earth button in the top right corner of the Google Earth website. Users can search for a location, click Tools, and select Flight Simulator from the options.

While not as detailed as some other flight simulators, Google Earth's offering provides breathtaking scenery and photorealistic elements using actual aerial and satellite photography. The game is intended to be a lightweight, novelty experience rather than a serious flight simulator.

The controls can be a bit janky at times, making control of the virtual aircraft frustrating. However, the simplicity of the game is part of its appeal, allowing users to pause for 15 minutes and glide over a football field or descend towards Mount Rushmore.
