Google Ends Photo Backup Feature in Drive

Google Drive users who rely on its photo backup feature will face changes starting August 10. The company is ending support for a specific option that lets users select folders on their computer and automatically send photos and videos to Google Photos.

This change only affects those using the Drive desktop application, which allows users to back up photos from their computers directly to Google Photos. Those who use Google Photos to back up photographs from smartphones are not impacted.

Users who currently depend on this feature will need to set up new backup folders through Google Photos by hand-picking the folders containing photos and videos they want to upload. Google's support documentation advises users to check that the selected files appear in Google Photos after setting up the new backup.
