Google Enters AI Music Market with Lyria 3.5 Release
Google has released Lyria 3.5, its AI music generation model, into the Gemini app, Google AI Studio, and the Gemini API. The model is available globally on web and mobile, marking a significant entry into the AI music market by the tech giant.
Lyria 3.5 is considered Google's best-sounding music generation model to date, with more expressive vocals and richer arrangements than earlier versions. It can build complete songs with verses, choruses, and bridges in high-fidelity stereo, at variable lengths up to three minutes.
The AI model first appeared on Google Flow Music on July 29, but its release to Gemini expands its reach to a much larger audience. This move puts Google directly in competition with Suno and Udio, two companies already operating in the market, which have been defending copyright suits from labels, artists, and collecting societies.
Google's entry into the AI music market without the weight of these lawsuits gives it significant leverage to shape the terms on which AI music is made. The model's training data has not been disclosed by Google, but its release marks another step in how AI has reshaped electronic music over the past two years.
