Google Enters Crowded Legal AI Market with Gemini Enterprise

Google has launched Gemini Enterprise for Legal, a specialized version of its enterprise AI platform designed to help law firms and in-house legal teams automate complex legal workflows. The offering is available in preview and marks Google's entry into the crowded legal AI market.

Gemini Enterprise for Legal combines specialized legal AI skills with secure connections to existing legal technology systems, third-party agents, and a central governance layer for IT, security, and risk teams. This allows law firms to apply their own instructions, templates, playbooks, citation requirements, and preferred approaches to particular workflows.

The platform includes purpose-built skills that guide AI agents through tasks such as contract lifecycle management, regulatory horizon scanning, data subject access request fulfillment, and document redaction. Google has also partnered with several law firms, including Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, Weil, and Williams & Connolly, to collaborate on the rollout.

Google's CEO, Thomas Kurian, said that 'Few professions are as exacting as the practice of law,' and emphasized the need for a platform that can handle complex workflows while preserving existing user permissions and access controls. The launch highlights Google's push to package Gemini Enterprise for specific industries, with legal and financial services being the first vertical versions.
