Google Enters Nuclear Energy Big Leagues with Finland Deal
Google continues to solidify its position as a major player in the nuclear energy sector. The tech giant has inked deals to finance and extend the life of several existing reactors, including the Loviisa nuclear station in Finland through a 22-year power purchase agreement with utility company Fortum Oyj.
The deal is part of Google's broader $15.1 billion investment into artificial intelligence infrastructure throughout Finland over the next two years, and will direct roughly $1.1 billion toward the plant's relicensing.
This move marks a significant shift in Google's approach to nuclear energy, which has expanded from backing small-scale reactors to focusing on large-scale existing or under-development units.
