Google Enters Tracker Market with Pixel Tag, Takes Aim at Apple AirTag
Google has entered the Bluetooth tracker market with its new Pixel Tag. The device is designed to compete directly with Apple's AirTag, and it will be sold individually for $29.99 or as a four-pack for $99.99.
The Pixel Tag is a thin, elliptical disc made from stainless steel, measuring two inches long. It has an IP67 rating, making it resistant to water and dust. The device comes in one colorway - 'Fog' - which features a silvery face and light blueish back panel.
Key features of the Pixel Tag include a built-in speaker that plays a sound when pinged from a phone, location tracking through the Google Find Hub app, and the ability to ring a paired Android device. The Pixel Tag also supports precision finding with distance and directional pointers, as well as 'Left Behind alerts' that notify users if they're about to leave an item behind.
The Pixel Tag will be available for purchase on November 11th, although preorders are not currently live. Google recommends signing up for in-stock alerts on its Store product page. The device works with smartphones running Android 9 or newer and can be shared with up to 10 different users.
