Google Escapes Breakup of Advertising Business Amid Competition Concerns
Google has escaped a breakup of its advertising technology business after US Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, declined to make Google sell AdX.
AdX is an online advertising exchange where publishers pay Google a 20% fee to sell ads in auctions that happen instantly when users load websites.
The Department of Justice had argued that Google could not be trusted to run the online advertising exchange after Brinkema ruled that Google had illegally quashed competition.
The judge accepted behavioral remedies, including providing real-time bid access to competitors. Google had proposed these fixes during the trial last year on remedies in the case.
