Google Escapes Breakup Order Over AdX Business
A federal judge has denied the US Department of Justice's request to force Google to sell its AdX advertising technology business, marking the third time in recent years that antitrust enforcers have attempted to break up a Big Tech company and lost.
Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled on Wednesday that Alphabet's Google could not be trusted to run the online ad exchange after finding it had illegally quashed competition. However, she accepted behavioral remedies proposed by Google, including providing real-time bid access to competitors.
The judge will release a detailed ruling in 14 days to give time to redact confidential information. This decision is the latest setback for the DOJ's efforts to force Google to sell assets to address illegal monopolies.
