Google Escapes Breakup Over Ad Tech Monopoly Case
Google has escaped breaking up its ad tech business after a US court rejected structural remedies in a monopoly case. The decision comes from Judge Leonie Brinkema, who ruled that Google does not have to sell its ad exchange, AdX.
The DOJ had sought structural remedies, including the forced divestiture of AdX, but Brinkema seemed skeptical during closing arguments last November. Google countered with a proposal for behavioral remedies, including offering real-time bid data to rival publisher ad servers.
Brinkema accepted most of the parties' proposed behavioral remedies as modified by her court, but did not elaborate on what those modifications are. The full details will be revealed when the court unseals its order in two weeks.
