Google Ex-Researcher Sounds Alarm on AI's Existential Threat

A former Google DeepMind researcher has expressed extreme concern over the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), warning that it may pose an existential threat to humanity.

Bilal Chughtai, a research engineer at Google for 1.5 years before leaving in July, believes that AI companies are racing to build superintelligent systems that could surpass human capabilities within the next few years.

'Things will only get crazier,' Chughtai warned on X. 'I think it's possible that the AI companies might succeed in building superintelligent AI systems that far exceed human capabilities in every domain.'

Chughtai emphasized the need for coordinated effort to pace AI development and ensure transparency into AI research, citing the risk of emerging risks being realized before they can be addressed.
