Google Expands Gemini Notebook with Ebook Import Feature

Google has expanded its Gemini Notebook platform by allowing users to import full ebooks from Google Play Books into their notes. This feature, called Expert Intelligence, aims to close the research gap in notebooks.

The integration enables users to import eligible ebooks directly into their notebooks as grounded sources, allowing them to cross-examine bestselling authors with their own notes and research. Instead of relying on ungrounded web summaries, Expert Intelligence queries the exact text of authoritative books with direct source citations.

Google has partnered with major publishing houses, including Macmillan, Penguin Random House, and O'Reilly Media, to launch with over 100,000 supported titles. The company also worked with bestselling authors such as Steven Pinker and Michael Pollan to release curated Featured Notebooks that pair their published work with supplemental artifacts.

The integration includes built-in ownership controls, requiring users to own the ebook on Google Play Books to interact with it inside a notebook. If shared in a collaborative notebook, collaborators will be prompted to purchase their own copy before querying the source.
