Google Expands Taiwan Office Space Amid Rapid Growth
Google is expanding its office space in Taiwan by 60% as local partners play an increasingly crucial role in developing the company's artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Amin Vahdat, Google's senior vice president and chief technologist for AI and infrastructure, hailed the importance of Taiwanese firms' hardware operations, saying without it, Google couldn't have built its current compute platform.
The expansion comes as demand for computing power grows by 'perhaps 10 times year over year,' driven by increasingly capable AI models and services. Vahdat warned that bottlenecks could shift rapidly among power availability, chip supply, memory, cooling, rack delivery, and networking.
Google is committed to achieving round-the-clock, carbon-free energy and will continue investing in renewable energy, batteries, and geothermal power. To protect its position in the global technology industry, Taiwan should pursue greater manufacturing automation and power efficiency while improving cooperation throughout the supply chain, Vahdat said.
