Google Faces $700 Million Fine in Antitrust Lawsuit Settlement
A federal court has approved a $700 million settlement in an antitrust lawsuit that challenged Google's control over app distribution and in-app payments for Android devices.
The bipartisan lawsuit by multiple attorneys general alleged Google illegally dominated Android app distribution and charged consumers up to 30% per transaction.
Washington Attorney General Nick Brown said, 'When giant companies gain an illegal stranglehold on a market, we take action and deliver relief for consumers.'
About $13 million of the total settlement will be refunded to Washington consumers, approximately 2.4 million of whom would be eligible.
