Google Faces Scrutiny Over Data Leak Involving Digital Sex Crime Victims

Gender Equality Minister Won Min-kyong is calling on Google to take responsibility for any legal violations related to an alleged leak of personal data from a foreign research project website that collaborated with the tech giant. The leak involved sensitive information about victims who had requested removal of illegally filmed videos.

The government had requested the removal of the exposed personal details, which were later deleted. Google apologized for the incident and stated it asked the operator to delete the information as soon as it was brought to their attention.

Won said that a platform like Google has an even heavier responsibility to protect sensitive information of victims due to its global influence. She emphasized that if any legal violations are found, Google must take legal responsibility for them.
