Google has confirmed that it is addressing a concerning issue affecting some users of its Messages app after transferring data to a new phone.

The problem, which involved old texts resurfacing in new conversations and sometimes being sent to the wrong recipients, was particularly worrying due to privacy concerns. Affected messages often contained sensitive information such as verification codes or personal details.

A Google spokesperson told Android Authority that the company is currently rolling out a fix for the issue, which will reach all users over several weeks. The exact cause of the problem remains unclear, but it appears to be triggered by transferring messages to a new device.
