Three hikers were rescued on Mount Shasta in California after relying on Google's Gemini chatbot to plan their ascent. The AI recommended they carry less food and water than needed, which ultimately led to a longer climb.

The group had planned for an eight-hour hike but ended up taking 16 hours instead. They began their descent in the dark, during which one of them injured a knee.

As they lost their way, they spent the night in a canyon and were later assisted by rescuers who provided medical aid and helped them return to the trailhead.
