Google's Gemini AI chatbot has reached a significant milestone, surpassing one billion monthly users. This achievement puts it in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which also recently hit the same mark. According to Google's data, 63% of Gemini users prefer voice interaction over typing prompts, with busy parents being 43% more likely to use voice commands for everyday tasks.

CEO Sundar Pichai celebrated the milestone on X and credited Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs and Gemini, for his work. Gemini was launched in 2024 and has since expanded across its browser, Android devices, and Google Workspace. This rapid growth has raised questions about whether Google is staying ahead in the competitive AI segment.

Just a month ago, Google reported 950 million monthly users, indicating a significant surge in adoption. Pichai hinted at ambitious plans for Gemini's next iteration, Gemini 4, which aims to compete at the frontier level of AI capabilities. This move suggests that Google is taking a proactive approach to staying ahead in the AI race.
