Google Health and Abbott Unite for Personalized Diabetes Guidance
Google Health and Abbott have joined forces to create personalized health guidance for people living with diabetes. The partnership will integrate glucose data from Abbott's Lingo biowearable with Google's artificial intelligence and consumer technology.
Lingo users will be able to view their glucose trends alongside other health metrics through the Google Health app, helping them understand how daily habits affect their wellbeing. Google's Health Coach will use this information to provide tailored recommendations on nutrition, activity, sleep, and recovery.
The partnership focuses on three key areas: connecting glucose data with a broader picture of health, delivering personalized AI-powered guidance, and conducting research into metabolic health. The companies plan to integrate ongoing glucose readings from the Lingo continuous glucose monitor into Google Health to help users understand how their bodies respond to daily habits.
A study combining continuous glucose, wearable, laboratory, and survey data will examine connections between activity, sleep, wellbeing, and metabolic health. This research aims to inform more personalized guidance and address rising rates of metabolic health problems globally. In the US alone, over 115 million adults have prediabetes, with around eight in ten unaware they have the condition.
Olivier Ropars, divisional vice president of Abbott's Lingo business, said: 'The biggest challenge in healthcare isn't treating disease, it's helping people stay healthier longer.' Rishi Chandra, vice president and general manager of Google Health, added: 'We have an opportunity to provide powerful, personalized health insights that can help people live longer, healthier lives.'
The partnership will make personalized insights available at unprecedented scale. Abbott said it is advancing metabolic health research through one of the largest real-world studies of its kind, generating new insights into the relationship between glucose and everyday behaviors.
