Google Hikes Google TV Streamer Price Amid AI-Driven Component Shortage
Google has raised the price of its Google TV Streamer device to $150, a 50 percent increase from its initial price of $100. The move is due to the ongoing component shortage caused by the artificial intelligence craze, which has led other tech giants such as Roku, Apple, and Amazon to raise their prices as well.
The Google TV Streamer brings Android TV to ordinary television sets, along with a smart home hub, but its price increase puts it at a higher end of the streaming TV market. Many retailers have already adjusted the cost of the device to match Google's online store, including Best Buy, Lowe's, and B&H Photo.
The global computer component shortage began late last year as semiconductor and memory manufacturers shifted their output to meet the demands brought on by artificial intelligence. Analysts expect the shortage to continue through 2027 and for most of 2028 until new manufacturing facilities come online.
