Google Hit with $425M Verdict for Alleged Mobile Privacy Violations

A federal judge has denied Google's request to overturn a $425 million verdict against the company for allegedly violating mobile users' privacy.

The class-action lawsuit, which dates back to 2020, alleged that Google gathered analytics information from smartphone users who had attempted to block data collection.

Judge Richard Seeborg rejected Google's argument that the jury's decision was not supported by evidence presented at trial, saying 'Google took a shot at trial, and it lost.'

The lawsuit claimed that Google used its Analytics for Firebase code to collect app-related data even when users had toggled off their 'Web & App Activity' setting.
