Google Honors Dolly Parton with Animated Tribute
Google has honored Dolly Parton's legacy by launching an animated tribute on its search engine. The animation, which appears whenever someone searches for Parton's name, features a butterfly and the phrase 'We'll Always Love You, 1946 - 2026'. This Easter egg is a nod to Parton's hit song 'Love is like a Butterfly', as well as her childhood memories of chasing butterflies in the Smoky Mountains.
Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Her representatives confirmed that she passed away at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, where she had been hospitalized since August 21.
The animation is part of Google's tradition of creating Easter eggs to honor notable figures when they pass away. The phrase 'We'll Always Love You' also references Parton's hit song from the 1970s, which was famously covered by Whitney Houston in 1992.
