Google Imposes Memory Limits on Android Apps
Google is introducing new memory limits for Android apps and games on the Play Store. These limits, set to take effect in February 2027, aim to improve performance on budget phones by preventing apps from consuming too much RAM.
The new per-app memory limits will be enforced starting next year, with developers able to check their app's memory usage and track down problem areas to resolve before the deadline. Google is also introducing minimum optimization requirements and tools to help developers ensure their apps comply with the upcoming memory limits.
Apps that don't meet these new limits could face limited visibility on the Play Store or even be prevented from being published entirely. The primary goal behind these new limits is to provide a smooth experience on Android devices across price ranges, but it remains unclear how these rules will apply to heavy apps that require significant RAM.
