Google Invests $15 Billion in Finnish AI Infrastructure
Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, announced a significant investment in Finland's AI infrastructure growth. The company plans to invest approximately $15.13 billion over two years in digital infrastructure, clean energy, and local partnerships to support rising demand for Search, Maps, and Gemini.
The 13 billion euros ($15.13 billion) package includes a 22-year agreement with the Loviisa nuclear plant's life extension, new onshore wind capacity, and a 94-megawatt battery system. Google also aims to fund forest and wetland restoration, as well as recreational trails, public saunas, and fishing piers near its sites.
The investment is described as Alphabet's largest single European investment, with the company highlighting Hamina, where its operations supported more than 600 Finnish suppliers from 2023 to 2025. The move comes amid a broader risk-off tone in the market, with S&P 500 futures down 0.2%.
