Google Invests in Climate-Smart Agriculture with $1M Methane Credit Deal

Google has partnered with Mitti Labs to purchase one million methane credits by 2030. The agreement is part of an effort to expand climate-smart agriculture across smallholder rice farms in India.

The deal aims to transition over 70,000 farmers to water- and methane-saving irrigation practices, targeting the superpollutant responsible for about a third of current warming. This will reduce near-term warming and conserve essential water resources.

Google's Chief Sustainability Officer, Kate Brandt, said the company is committed to finding solutions that neutralise warming across both the near and long term. She added that Mitti Labs' approach delivers critical near-term atmospheric impact by cutting methane emissions, while conserving billions of gallons of water.
