Google Keeps OS Name Under Wraps Ahead of Googlebook Launch
Google's in-person media event is just over two weeks away, and the company has yet to reveal the name of its new operating system, which will power the Googlebook laptops from Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, and Asus.
The hardware specs and some software features have been leaked, but Google has kept the consumer-facing branding of the OS under wraps. The internal project name was 'Aluminium OS', but it's unlikely to be used as a public-facing name.
Some speculate that Google will follow its previous naming conventions with Chromebooks and use a straightforward name like 'Google OS' or introduce Gemini Intelligence, its AI-focused brand, as the primary identifier for the platform. Others predict that Android PC or Android Desktop might be used to highlight the app ecosystem, but it may sound dated.
The mission of the OS remains the same: deliver fast desktop Chrome productivity, native Android execution without container lag, and unmatched battery efficiency.
