Google Lands Spirit Airlines' Digital Footprint for $10 Million
Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy auction yielded an unexpected outcome last May when Google secured the winning bid to acquire its enterprise database for $10 million.
The repository contains approximately 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, tens of millions of lines of code, operational logs, spreadsheets, and calendar entries generated throughout Spirit's history.
According to Google, the corporate records will be used to refine its commercial products and train artificial intelligence models. The tech giant stated that the dataset will undergo strict anonymization before the final transfer, emphasizing that no customer information or personally identifiable data will be involved.
This highlights a broader paradigm shift across the AI landscape where developers are moving beyond publicly scraped web content, shifting their focus toward authentic internal records that reflect the real-world mechanics of modern enterprises.
