Google Launches Pixel Tag: A New Tool for Locating Lost Items
The Google Pixel Tag is a Bluetooth-enabled device designed to help users locate misplaced items using Google's Find Hub system. It attaches to an item or bag and uses a global network of Android devices to report its location when nearby. The Pixel Tag does not have cellular connectivity or GPS, but relies on Bluetooth and the Find Hub network to provide location information.
The device is available for purchase from Google at $29.99 for one unit or $99.99 for four. It has a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery with an estimated lifespan of over one year. The Pixel Tag also supports Ultra Wideband for Precision Finding and Bluetooth Channel Sounding, but these features require compatible Android phones.
Google emphasizes the importance of privacy in its product design, stating that location data is encrypted and not stored on the Find Hub network. While the Pixel Tag can provide directional guidance to help locate an item, it does not prevent items from being misplaced or stolen.
