Google Launches WeatherNext 3 with Hourly Forecasts and Improved Accuracy
Google's WeatherNext 3 AI model has been launched, boasting improved accuracy and finer local detail in its weather forecasts. The new system generates hourly updates and provides a 5km resolution of conditions, an upgrade from the previous 25km grid used by WeatherNext 2.
This increased granularity is expected to improve forecasting for rain and snow, particularly when looking ahead a day or more. Google claims that precipitation forecasts made in advance can be up to 50% more accurate with WeatherNext 3.
The new model uses live satellite observations to inform its forecasts, rather than relying on traditional weather simulations that may be up to six hours behind. This provides a fresher view of current conditions and allows for more timely updates.
