Google Leads $17 Billion Data Center Project Near Cheyenne

Google is stepping in to lead the $17 billion-plus data center project near Cheyenne, Wyoming. The project, dubbed Project Tembo, will feature four data center buildings and an office complex on a 700-acre campus.

Since taking over from Crusoe earlier this summer, Google has scaled back the project's size slightly, but is committed to investing in the local community.

The company plans to employ up to 2,500 construction workers during peak development and around 250 once the facility is operational. Google also expects to become one of the largest taxpayers in Laramie County, generating tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue annually.

Project Tembo will draw water from the Lance Formation aquifer, using a closed-loop cooling system to minimize water consumption. The company has pledged to replenish 120% of the water it uses through regional watershed projects.
