Google Lets Parents Send Digital Allowance Directly to Kids' Phones
Google has launched a new feature for its Wallet service that allows parents to send digital allowance directly to their children's cell phones. The new 'Allowance' feature is available in the US, starting August 6, 2026, and can be used with NFC-enabled Android devices or Wear OS smartwatches.
Parents can set up a separate balance for their child and transfer money from their own account to fund it. Children can then use this balance to make contactless payments at any NFC terminal where Google Pay is accepted.
The Family Link app allows parents to track their child's spending in real-time, view transactions, and even freeze the account if needed. This feature requires authentication via PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition.
Google Wallet for Kids has been available as a basic feature since before, but this new money transfer option is exclusive to the US for now. German parents will have to wait patiently until Google announces an international rollout.
