Google Locks Down Sunnyvale Office Space as Bay Area Plans Shift
Google has reaffirmed its commitment to Sunnyvale by renewing leases for two office complexes, Moffett Place and Moffett Gateway. The tech giant is leasing five of six buildings at Moffett Place, which totals roughly 1.5 million square feet, comparable to the size of Google's headquarters in Mountain View.
The combined leases total approximately 2.1 million square feet of office space, a significant increase for Sunnyvale. This move comes as Google has rolled back some of its office and housing commitments in nearby Mountain View.
In contrast, Google abandoned plans to build a mega-office complex in North Bayshore, dubbed 'Google Landings,' which would have nearly tripled the existing office space on the property. The company also pulled back on plans to build housing in Mountain View, initially proposing 2,000 new homes at Middlefield Park.
