Google Makes It Easy to Share Passkeys Between Password Managers on Android

Google has made it easier for Android users to share and transfer passkeys between password managers. Passkeys are a more secure alternative to passwords, but they can be tied to one device or stored in the cloud. This new feature allows users to move their passkeys to another provider using a built-in process.

Previously, transferring passkeys was a cumbersome task that required downloading unencrypted text files. However, with Google's recent changes, this is no longer necessary. Users can now select the import or copy passwords option in the app they want to transfer from, and Android will take over. The system automatically detects the installed password managers or providers and shows which one has a secure database to import.

According to Google, users can already use this feature with popular tools like 1Password, Bitwarden, Google Password Manager, and Dashlane. This means that users can swap passkeys between these providers using a secure process. For example, if someone wants to move their passkeys from Google's Password Manager to Bitwarden, they can do so easily.
