Google Maps Expands Ask Feature with AI-Powered Actions and Personalized Recommendations
Google is enhancing its Maps service with AI-powered actions and personalized recommendations. The company is expanding the capabilities of its Ask Maps feature, which allows users to ask for specific information or tasks in natural-language requests. For example, a user could ask Maps to find nearby restaurants offering specific food options, and Ask Maps can present suitable choices.
The updated experience simplifies bookings and everyday travel planning by enabling users to complete transactions directly within the app. Users can select an option, such as ordering online or booking a hotel room, and review their selections before completing the purchase.
Google is also introducing Personal Intelligence to Maps, which allows Ask Maps to provide recommendations based on information available in a user's Gmail and Google Calendar. This feature is disabled by default and requires explicit opt-in from users.
The rollout of these capabilities is currently focused on the US, while Personal Intelligence is expanding across several markets, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico.
