Google Maps Gets Dark Mode Makeover for Android Auto
Google is working on new color schemes for Google Maps in Android Auto. The map surface and turn indicators could get darker, even in light mode, to reduce eye strain when driving with a large infotainment screen.
The current colors can be quite distracting, especially at night or in direct sunlight. In dark mode, the turn indicator currently remains teal, which may look out of place. The new color scheme would make it easier to see and use Google Maps while driving.
The changes are part of a larger update for Android Auto, which includes a new weather animation and support for Quick Settings tiles. However, it's unclear if this is an intentional change or a bug in the latest beta version.
