Google Maps Integrates Gemini for Smarter Destination Insights
Google Maps has expanded its 'Know Before You Go' feature, initially launched in November 2025, to include more users beyond its initial launch in the United States. This move strengthens Google's reliance on Gemini, a generative AI model, to transform maps into smart assistants that provide concise information about places before visiting them.
The 'Know Before You Go' feature relies on Gemini to analyze user reviews and experiences from multiple sources, including social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This analysis extracts key details that users might need, presenting them as quick tips before the visit.
For example, when searching for a restaurant or café, users may see information about popular dishes and drinks, or tips related to peak times, ordering, reserving, and parking. The feature is not limited to restaurants and cafés, with tips varying depending on the type of place.
