Google Maps Pin Leads Visitors Astray from TRPL
Visitors to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota have been led astray by an errant Google Maps pin. Duane Zent, a local farmer and rancher, has flagged down six vehicles of lost library visitors on his property after they were directed there by the mapping service.
The library, which opened to the public on July 4, is located in Medora, but the misplaced pin has been sending people to a remote pasture over an hour's drive away. Zent and his neighbor have seen out-of-state license plates from places like New York and New Jersey, as well as rental cars that are clearly lost.
According to TRPL spokesman Matt Briney, the library has been working with Google to fix the issue for about nine days. They've heard from frustrated visitors who had been led astray by the error, and expressed concerns that people were being sent into remote pastureland unaware and unprepared.
