Google Maps Reflects Name Change to Lake America

Google has made an update to its maps service that reflects a change in the name of Lake Ontario. The search giant cited the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) as the reason for the update. According to Google, GNIS is a database of geographic names maintained by the U.S. government, and it has formally changed the name of the lake to 'Lake America'. As a result, people using Maps in the US will now see this new name when searching for the term.

However, Canadians will still be able to view the lake as 'Lake Ontario' on Google Maps. The update does not appear to have affected any other aspect of Google's services or operations.
