Google Maps Reflects US Renaming of Lake Ontario
Google has made changes to its mapping service, reflecting a recent renaming of Lake Ontario. According to Google, this change was made in response to an update in the U.S. government's geographic names database.
The name change was prompted by U.S. President Donald Trump signing an executive order on Thursday to rename the lake 'Lake America'. This move came after trade talks broke down between Washington and Ottawa, followed by Canada announcing retaliatory tariffs.
However, Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to this decision by stating that Canadians will continue to refer to the lake as Lake Ontario.
